BEAUTIFUL BACKDROP
I have seen this location in many photos, but never really knew where it was. Never knew until the winners of the “With this ring wedding show” contest (John and Anna) decided they would like to claim their engagement shoot prize there. Willson Carbide Mill is located on Victoria island in the Ottawa river, it is within Gatineau park and has historical significance. Thomas Leopold Willson , was the inventor of the process to produce calcium carbide and acetylene gas. He was also the founder of the Ottawa Carbide Company which established the mill in 1899.
LOVE STORY
Now that you know the back story of this beautiful location, lets find out about the back story of Anna and John.
They are getting married July 17th this year at Temple’s sugar bush where I also have the honour of photographing their wedding. They are both helicopter pilots in the armed forces and train extensively for search and rescue missions. Currently they are living apart, Anna in Nova Scotia and John in Newfoundland. After the wedding Anna will be joining John and they will no longer have to be apart. Yay!
We had a lot of fun on this balmy day in March, once I actually found the place. (GPS led me astray and I was an hour late!) This was a testament to just how cool John and Anna were. The old mill was eerily beautiful and made the perfect back drop for these two love birds.
I can’t wait for the wedding day!
A little game of duck duck goose on the way there!
The river was raging at this time of year.
So happy.
I was in love with this engagement ring!
Thank you Anna and John for letting me get to know you at one of Ottawa’s hidden Gems!
