Marty and Heather are the kind of folk that are just plain easy to be around. When they told me they were renting out an entire camp ground to host their wedding, I knew it would be a fun and laid back affair. A wedding camp out! Christie Lake Camp just outside of Perth was host to everything from the groomsmen getting ready in the camp medical centre, to dogs wearing dresses and a canoe full of beer. I have to say I’ve never seen as many dogs in clothes as I did at this wedding, adorably entertaining. Heather and Marty’s dog Roo, was appointed wedding mascot and photo instructions to me were “don’t worry if Roo gets in our shots, she belongs there” so I did not have to worry about Roo photo-bombing any of the pics. (and she did)
DIY?…..Yes!
After the ceremony we headed down to the docks for a few fun photos. There were no arguments when I suggested they dip thier toes in the water, everyone was sweatin’ it out in the late August sun. There was also a game of volleyball, team bridesmaid vs. team groomsmen (I’m not sure who won) and a civilized game of croquette. Once everyone worked up an appetite there was a camp style dinner – make your own fajita’s with all the fixings made possible by numerous friends and family. Lastly, there was the romantic first dance. Heather and Marty had been practicing it for months, at Fred Astaire Dance Studio to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s thinking out loud. There was a fabulous live band called the Royal Brush Off who provided the music which is Heather’s brother-in-laws band.
You could say it was the ultimate DIY wedding, even the bridesmaids gorgeous floral skirts were designed by one of the bridesmaids herself (Steph) and made by Heather’s aunt Linda. Family also pitched in to make the cake, decor and floral arrangements.
The day was full of laughs and tears (especially from Marty when he saw his bride for the first time) good food, friends and music. The way a wedding should be.
The dogs were well dressed at this wedding.
Marty so filled with emotion upon seeing his bride to be.
I would also like to extend a special thanks to my pal, neighbour and assistant for the day, Tammy Ryan. She got a few great shots of the guys for me while I was running late with the ladies (as ladies tend to do) and a few other keepers for the bride and groom as well, thanks Tammy!
