The Art of Boudoir

The art of boudoir

A few weeks ago I signed up for a course with one of Ottawa’s most popular model photographers, Garry Black. It was about learning the art of boudoir, posing, lighting and interacting with your clients. We got to work with some lovely models, who were obviously very comfortable in front of the camera, but for most of my clients, this is not always the case. It takes a bit of gumption and self confidence to work up the courage to bare your soul and half naked body to a perfect stranger, but at the same time it can be very liberating.

Looking good, feeling good and a little bit of fantasy.

To me boudoir is all about feeling good in your skin, mixed with a little bit of mystery, sex appeal and fantasy. Nine times out of ten, my clients are nervous about getting in front of the lens, but they are also very excited. Usually after the first five to ten minutes, my clients figure out I am there to help them relax, make them look good and help with posing and all of those nerves melt away. After all, I have done this quite a few times and this is likely your first attempt at it.

I like to chat with my clients a bit before hand to find out the type of look and feel they want for their shoot. I tend lean toward the more light and airy shots with natural light, but this course has also taught me how to use artificial lighting to acheive a more dramatic look. Whether you are looking for soft and innocent, dominatrix dirty, or gorgeous glamour, I got you covered.

Post production can also be a fun way to add a bit of drama to well lit photos. Take a look at some of the different ways I can edit photos to give you a natural or more dramatic look. Shots can also have a completely different feel when they are edited into black and white also.

This first photo, I was up on a ladder shooting down on the model and the other I was laying right on the ground in front of her to get two dramatic looks, these are both shot with natural light.Boudoir by Stacey Stewart Photography

These next few sets of photos will show you just a few of the different looks that can be acheived with post processing
