Welcome to Ottawa’s finest boutique salon: Humble and Harris, a cozy, yet upscale and modern salon in the heart of the city. This beautiful little boutique is located at 336 Cumberland street and houses two very talented and dedicated stylists. Katharyn Humble and Josiah Frith are co-owners of Humble and Harris boutique salon and both have had long careers in the hair and make-up industries.
Katharyn Graduated from Alqonquin college for hairstyling in 2003, but had been a make-up artist long before then. Truth be told I used to work with Katharyn and Josiah years ago when they were both at York Street Spa. Yup, I was a receptionist there and got to experience thier talents first hand. Most of the staff there were always trying to pilfer free hair and make-up sessions from the talent….but I digress.
ABOUT THE STYLISTS:
Katharyn has worked with some of the most recognizable and successful cosmetic lines on the market: Yves St. Laurent, Lancombe, Estee Lauder, Shishedo, Aveda and most recently Arbonne. Many of you may have heard of Arbonne. If you’ve tried it you love it and if you haven’t you should. Their products are vegan and honestly made with natural ingredients. They work, they smell great and feel great and they boast a large collection of products all the way from babies to women and men! Katharyn and Josiah only use Arbonne and Aveda products at their salon. They beleive in them and their clients love them. I have personally tried both and they truely are some of the best skin/hair care products I have ever used. Along side running the salon, Katharyn is also an Arbonne consultant and area manager, another business in itself.
Josiah, the counterpart of this fab duo hails from Halifax. He actually grew up in Florida, but made his way to Canada in 1994 where he enrolled in the Halifax hair design centre a year later. He came to Ottawa in 1997 where he worked at some of the cities most prestigious salons. He started out at Bossarts, moved to York Street Spa, then to Julian Marc in 2008. He joined Katharyn at Humble and Harris this past January and hasn’t looked back.
Katharyn and Josiah’s mantra is “specializing in making people feel good” they listen to their clients and help them love what god gave them so they can be their best selves.
These two are fabulous people and are the best at what they do. Josiah is known for his long and short styles, wash and wear magnificence, he does bridal hair including fantastic up-do’s. If you want Josiah to take a crack at your tresses for your wedding, you better call soon. He is normally booked 6 months to a year in advance.
Katharyn excels doing colour and classic hair styles, she also loves transforming people with make-up and coaching them on how to be good to their bodies and skin. She applies this philosphy to herself (well just look at her….hawt!) and her clients.
THE BIG NEWS!
So guess what? Katharyn and Josiah have agreed to come on board with me to be one of the go-to salons for the launch of my new photo package “Fabulous Frock Fridays.”
I have been hinting at it and teasing with what’s to come, but have not really explained it. So what is it? I thought it would be a really cool idea to offer a photo package where you can look and feel fabulous and have a day out with the girls!
What does it involve? You and up to Three of your Bff’s will be treated to an afternoon of professional hair and make-up, A photo walk with me around the city (or location of choice). You can choose to either re-wear your wedding dress (for a group trash/rock the dress session) or some other chic frock you own. If you don’t have “anything to wear” I will also provide you with a gift certificate for Rent-frock-repeat, a boutique that rents out designer dresses for any occasion. We will also stop along the way and grab a drink or a dessert or whatever you fancy….my treat. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Humble and Harris will help transition you from every day you into super-fantabulous you and we will take Ottawa by storm!

I have to thank Katharyn’s client for letting me photograph her metamorphosis. Not every woman is willing to let the world see them with hair dye and no make-up! Not to worry though the after shot is gorgeous.
